Solar House

Pullach

1987 - 1989

The client, engineer at Lufthansa, wanted a wooden house and special attention to solar technical aspects. The extremely narrow structure of the semi-detached house is oriented to the south with a high proportion of glazing, in the north it is highly insulated. One experiences the whole depth of the house in every room. At the gable ends, the building structure is continued in the east in a carport and in the West in a two-storey indoor garden. Thus the length of the building is emphasized again.
The parallel zones of the floor plan delate gradually from the basement. Similar to a ship the spatial cross-section expands from the bottom up and increases in width. A potentially resulting optical lability of the building is intercepted by the small storage building in the north, which forms as it were the "ship boom".
The active-energy components of the house are the storage walls with precast concrete and in front panels with translucent thermal insulation in the south facade, the photovoltaic system on the main roof, ventilation systems with a small heat pump and heat recovery, as well as stoves and a minimally designed electric auxiliary heater.
