Worlds in Rooms

Westphalian Open-Air Museum Detmold

1999 - 2000

For the major special exhibition "Worlds in Rooms - how young people live today" a special place for a special architecture was chosen. In the middle of the village pond in the Westphalian Open-Air Museum of the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe, visitors in the summer of 2000 encountered an at first strange-looking structure. Colored faces, inspired by graffiti painting, reflected in the water and enriched the village situation. Over little bridges one could reach the "floating" pavilions, where real, shown to the smallest details, children's rooms were situated. Currently the young people's rooms are archived.
Each pavilion is constructed on the basis of two reusable industrial containers made of steel, rented for the duration of the exhibition. This design ensured short assembly times and an easy and complete dismantling.
