1990 - 1992
The client, owner of a construction market, had purchased after the 1972 Olympics in Munich about 100 tons of steel profiles, which had been used for temporary structures during the games. The task was to build from these semi-finished steel materials a rentable office building with a restaurant and a caretaker's apartment.
From these inputs a building with 36 m length, 10 m width and 14 m height has been developed. The building stands parallel to the street with its longitudinal direction. Two staircases and an elevator are located on the front sides of the building. The open ground floor area is used as a parking area for the hardware store located behind the new building. On the upper floors leasable rooms and on the top floor a restaurant are placed. The upper floors are accessible via the staircases already mentioned. The building has a partial basement.
The steel profiles of the main supporting structure have been embedded in concrete in the ceiling area for fire safety reasons, the columns have been covered with a F 90 A construction. The stair flights of the outer steel staircases are designed as a pure suspension structure to take advantage of the excellent properties of steel with tensile forces and to achieve the highest possible filigree.
